On August 8, 2024 by editor1 StandardVIENNA (AP) — The organizers of Taylor Swift’s three concerts in Vienna this week canceled the events on Wednesday following reports of an arrest related to a suspected plot to attack an event in the Vienna area, including the concerts.
Swift was scheduled to perform at the Ernst Happel Stadium in Vienna on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday as part of her Eras Tour.
Barracuda Music, the event organizer, announced on Instagram late Wednesday that they had “no choice but to cancel the three scheduled shows for everyone’s safety,” citing confirmation from government officials about a planned attack at the stadium.
Earlier on Wednesday, authorities revealed they had arrested two individuals suspected of extremism. One suspect, a 19-year-old, was apprehended in Ternitz, south of Vienna, while the second was arrested in the Austrian capital. Franz Ruf, Austria’s public security director, stated that authorities were aware of “preparatory actions” for a potential attack and that the 19-year-old suspect had shown particular interest in the Taylor Swift concerts, according to the Austria Press Agency.
